An employee at the West Coast Mushroom Farm on Ebenezer Church Road reported a fire that broke out at approximately 12:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, prompting a heavy response from first responders.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, it took a team of more than three dozen firefighters from the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun and nearby agencies approximately a half hour to get the flames under control, though the damage was already done.

Officials say that the farm sustained upwards of $500,000 in damage, despite the swift response by firefighters.

The fire sparked inside the building, they noted, though the cause remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.

West Coast Mushrooms are sold to distributors, but also has locations across the East Coast - including in Maryland - Florida, New Orleans, and Texas, producing more than 1 million pounds per week, according to the company’s website.
